Coffee Break Confessions

Every office has a secret. It lasts about ten minutes, it happens standing up, and nobody puts it on the calendar.
It's the coffee break — and if we're confessing, let's confess properly. The break is never really about the coffee. The coffee is the excuse your feet use to walk away from the screen, the meeting that should have been an email, and the spreadsheet that started looking back at you.
Confession one: nobody has ever taken a coffee break because they were thirsty. You take it because your brain filed a formal request for mercy, and the cup was the only approved paperwork.
Confession two: the best information in any workplace never travels by memo. It travels by coffee. Who's hiring, who's quitting, whose project just got saved, whose is quietly sinking — it all gets announced first, in whispers, next to the machine, cup in hand, in the ten minutes that officially do nothing.
Confession three: the walk to get the coffee is half the medicine. Shoulders down. Eyes off the screen. Daylight, maybe. A thought finishes itself somewhere between your desk and the pot — the answer you'd been staring at for an hour shows up the moment you stop staring.
In Haiti, coffee was never a solo desk drink to begin with. It's brewed strong, poured small, and shared — a pause that pulls people together instead of scattering them. Somewhere along the way, the break kept the ritual and lost the recipe. We think the recipe matters: a break deserves coffee that tastes like somebody cared.
So here's our official position, for the record: the ten-minute break is not stolen time. It's the hinge the whole workday swings on. Take it standing in the sun if you can. Take it with the coworker who makes you laugh. Just don't take it with bad coffee — life is too short, and the afternoon is too long.
We're Figaro Cafe Mystic: Haitian Typica coffee, hand-roasted over fire in Haiti, shipped fresh to your door — roasted fresh to order, most orders ship in about 2 weeks. Brew it at the office and watch what happens to the break.
